Soccer's Over

Emily had her last soccer practice this past weekend. She has ballet class before soccer, and both Ron and I try to attend both, but this past weekend, Ron said he wasn't going to be able to make it to ballet because, as one of the soccer coaches, he had to "figure out what to do with these kids". It's been amusing watching these three and four year olds perfect their soccer skills and try to play together . A lot of the kids had a problem w sharing the ball (i.e. One child was dribbling a ball down the field when another kid ran toward him to try to steal the ball. Rather than kick the ball, the dribbler snatched the ball up in his arms and hugged it close to his chest so as not to let the other kid have it.) Kids at this age are fairly moody -- if they don't want to play, they won't play! One little boy would start the practice by walking out onto the field, sitting down, taking off his baseball cap and throwing it onto the field. The kids were really quite amusing. The other coach told us that Emily had the quote of the day this past weekend. They were halfway thru practice and she said to him "I want this to be over." All of the kids got gold medals and soccer whistles at the end of practice and all went home happy. Emily enjoyed her "soccer season" and is already asking if we've signed her up for the next session. Daddy says that he'll likely be a spectator next time as opposed to a coach--too much drama!
